If you're a comic book fan, then surely you're familiar with the DC Comics' superhero Green Lantern. The popular character has been on the forefront of the Hollywood rumor mill for an upcoming big budget film. But the question has remained "Who will play the Green Lantern?" Names like Jack Black, Adam Sandler, and more recently Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper have been circulated, but there's never been much factual reporting on who might truly be in the lead. Well it looks like they've decided, and I for one couldn't be happier. Variety is reporting that Ryan Reynolds has in fact won the role of Green Lantern in the upcoming live-action Warner Brothers movie.
I've always liked Reynolds, and he's certainly got the right look and charisma to play a big screen superhero. His brief performance as Deadpool in the X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE movie a few months ago was only moderately satisfying, but this could be the proper exposure he needs to solidify himself as an action hero. Even current GREEN LANTERN comic scribe (and all around good guy) Geoff Johns has been posting enthusiastic reactions to this news on Twitter. I mean seriously, how can you not think this is cool?
But the good news doesn't stop there. GOLDENEYE and CASINO ROYALE (2006) director Martin Campbell has been chosen to helm the film. Good Lord, can you imagine how cool this movie is going to be?!?!? According to Variety "The studio is still working on the picture’s budget, but production is expected to begin in January."
