This was taken from Comicbbook Resources:
Tom Cruise as Ozymandias? That's what has been confirmed by a story at CHUD. Their Devin Faraci wrote, "While on the phone with Watchmen director-to-be Zack Snyder yesterday, talking about the pending release of 300, I asked him point blank about Cruise, and he confirmed that he and Tom had been talking about it. A lot. But that now it looked like Cruise would not be appearing in the film. 'He was interested,' Snyder confirmed to me. 'I did talk to him about it for a while.' And would the role he wanted be Ozymandias? 'That would be the role,' Snyder said." They also note that the film will be aiming for an "R" rating.

Well, one thing I've always said about Tom Cruise is that the guy always gives 110% with every role he plays. My only real concern about someone like him being in this movie is that it could take away from the ensemble aspect of the story. I'd be too worried the screenplay would try to boost Ozymandias' role, rather than following the source material. So for that reason, I'm glad he's not involved. Personally I think 300 got it right. No big names, just solid actors.
Best,

Tom Cruise, for all the bad rap he gets now, is a really good actor. I still pretty much enjoy anything he's in.
Agreed that this movie needs good actors and not name actors.
It would distract way too much from the movie.

I'm a fan of Tom Cruise even with all the bad press over the past year I think the guy is a great actor and that he makes genuinly entertaining movies. But as Ozymandias... I'm not so sure. it's such an important part of the story obviously but for those peopel that don't know the story, the character shouldn't be so obviously importantant. then ending is better if you don't suspect him and with someone like Cruise in the role, all eyes will be on him.
