November 26th, 2006 Comic book legend Dave Cockrum has passed this morning due to complications from Diabetes. He was 63. Dave had been dealing with health problems for the past few years. In 2004 Heritage Auctions hosted a benefit auction, where the proceeds were used to help pay Cockrum's medical bills. The industry professionals who contributed to that auction were numerous, and all had nothing but high respect for Dave. He spent six years in the Navy before tackling comic books. Cockrum made a big impression with his work on UNCANNY X-MEN, and GIANT-SIZE X-MEN, where he helped writers Len Wein and Chris Claremont to usher in a new team with new and exciting characters. His other impressive works included SUPERBOY AND THE LEGION OF SUPERHEROES, THE FUTURIANS (which he created), and so much more. Dave was a hero to many artists in the industry, and he will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Mr. Cockrum asked to be cremated, and there are no details concerning services at this time. While family and friends have requested no phone calls for the moment, e-mails can be sent to magnetorampant@yahoo.com
