Hey, all.
Since most of the threads on this site haven't been updated in years, I figured it best to start over. The general purpose of this thread is to discuss which changes you'd like to see made to all six STAR WARS films for home video, now that Disney owns the rights. I don't just want lists, either; please try to explain why each of your preferences makes sense to you. That way, we can all comment on these matters. So, here's my choices, to start with...
Remaster the Entire Saga From Scratch
I truly think that with the exception of Episode III, all of the films need a major overhaul in terms of picture and sound quality. The 2011 Blu-Ray releases were (mostly) sourced from a 2004 master which wasn't even done by ILM. Lucas farmed the workload out to Lowry Digital, and while they look much better than the DVDs, there's still room for improvement. This is especially true in "Attack of the Clones", where the live-action elements often clash with the CG backgrounds due to poor contrast issues.
Redo the OT Lightsabers...All of Them
This is an issue which has been present with the films since the very beginning of home-video, but the 2004 DVDs made it even worse. The prequels fared alright, but the OT's swords were all over the map. The Blu-Ray release corrected many of them, but some scenes are still messed up. A classic example is the constant switching of colors in Luke's training on the Falcon (don't be misled by the video title).
Another remaining error is the infamous "prop stick" during Obi-Wan's fight with Vader (its at the 1:28 mark in this clip).
There's many more shots like this in the OT; I didn't notice any in the PT Blu-Rays.
Remove Foolish Blu-Ray Changes
Here's some examples, that were first done in the 2011 release.
For example, why does Artoo suddenly have huge rocks in front of him, while watching over an injured Luke? Then, when Kenobi arrives, he's out of the cave, without having moved them.
Get the Emperor Right This Time...
While I love the fact that Lucas had Ian McDiarmid shoot a revised hologram scene for the Blu-Ray of "The Empire Strikes Back", it still doesn't match with his appearance in "Return of the Jedi". Here's a shot from the 2011 version, followed by a fan's very nice attempt to match the later entry.
