Provocative Anna Nicole Smith Diaries to be Auctioned by Heritage!
DALLAS, TEXAS: Vickie Lynn Marshall, better known as Anna Nicole Smith, was a model, actress, and celebrity known not only for her stunning looks and figure but also for her marriage to an oil business billionaire, J. Howard Marshall, who was 63 years her senior. They met while she was performing at a Houston strip club in 1991 and the relationship culminated in their marriage on June 27, 1994. At his passing (thirteen months later), she began a lengthy court battle over a share of his estate that eventually went all the way to the Supreme Court.
Born Vickie Lynn Hogan near Houston, Texas on November 28, 1967, Smith dropped out of high school and married for the first time at age 17. She had a son, Daniel Wayne Smith, in 1986. Her big career break came when Hugh Hefner featured her on the March 1992 cover of Playboy magazine in which Smith said that she was planning to be “the next Marilyn Monroe.” That same year she met Guess executive Paul Marciano who hired her to replace supermodel Claudia Schiffer in the Guess jeans ads. In 1993, she was named Playboy’s Playmate of the Year. Roles in films such as The Hudsucker Proxy (1994), Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994), and Skyscraper (1997) followed but her legal battle over the estate stalled her career. In 2002, Anna Nicole debuted a reality show on the E! cable network, The Anna Nicole Show, that focused on her private life. In 2003, she became the spokesperson for TrimSpa whose products reportedly helped her lose 69 pounds. The year 2006 was both eventful and tragic for Anna Nicole. She gave birth to her second child, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, on September 7, 2006 in the Bahamas. Her son died three days later while he was visiting his mother and newborn sister. Of course, we all know of Anna Nicole’s untimely passing on February 8, 2007 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
“Is it just me or does controversy seem to follow me around?” is a line from Anna Nicole’s self-penned biography found on her website. “This certainly seems to be the case with her,” said Doug Norwine, Director of Music and Entertainment Auctions for Heritage, “and we’re thrilled to be able to present two of her personal diaries at our upcoming auction. These handwritten journals from 1992 and 1994 give us a unique insight into the personal thoughts and feelings of this beautiful young woman during the period in which she was achieving superstardom.”
“In an entry dated June 23, 1992, Anna Nicole writes about Guess executive Paul Marciano ‘Oh, my gosh! I’m going to San Antonio to do a photo shoot. I’m so excited. Please, God, let him love me!’ She also said of Marciano, ‘I’m afraid Paul will find out about my past.’ Another entry states that ‘I hate for men to want sex all the time… I hate sex.' Some of the most poignant entries are about her feelings for her husband J. Howard Marshall,” Norwine continues, “Soon after her marriage in 1994, Anna Nicole writes, ‘My husband is very sick and weak. There’s nothing I can do… I wish I could take ALL the pain away. I really do.’ She longed for him to stay alive so they could have more time to spend together. This is a private side to this celebrity that is rarely seen.”
Norwine said, “Not only do we have her diaries, which we estimate at $50,000-100,000, but also four other great pieces of memorabilia. One is a Bloomingdale’s receipt of Howard Marshall dated December 12, 1992, signed “Vickie Smith” for $16,954.66 where her future husband purchased for her a Pearl necklace ($6450), a Chanel watch ($6200), Mikimoto Pearls ($1625), and Pearl earrings ($1387.50). Another is a signed bank check on Vickie Lynn Smith’s personal account from the same month where she paid Federal Express $21.76 for a package. The next item is an interesting handwritten receipt signed by Anna Nicole Smith for ‘Bills for Rose Martino’ totaling $537.39. The last item is Vickie Lynn Marshall’s Texas Photo Identification Card for 1994 (?). We are proud to offer her worldwide legions of fans the opportunity to own these uniquely personal mementos of this tragic superstar.”
