Alan Dean Foster, Award-Winning Author, To Headline FenCon III: Science Fiction Literary Convention To Feature More Than 60 Writers, Artists, and Singers
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) June 1, 2006-- Alan Dean Foster, award winning creator of works such as the Spellsinger series and the Pip and Flinx series as well as the author of over one hundred books and several movie adaptations including Alien, Clash of the Titans, The Last Starfighter, Starman, and Splinter of the Mind’s Eye (Star Wars), will be Guest of Honor at FenCon III (www.fencon.org), a literary science fiction/fantasy and filk convention scheduled for September 22-24, 2006, at the Holiday Inn Select North Dallas in Dallas, Texas.
Along with Foster, FenCon III will feature Pegasus award-winning musician Heather Alexander as Music Guest of Honor. Alexander has performed on several albums, either as a vocalist, composer, instrumentalist, or arranger. Using her guitar, fiddle and/or bodhran, Alexander performs original and traditional Celtic music that excites audiences of all ages. Her album Wanderlust, a collection of original music based on traditional Celtic themes, has been described by Dirty Linen Magazine as "tunes and stories that rarely fail to delight, especially with that incredible voice and wild fiddle playing”.
Jim Butcher, Toastmaster, is best known as the author of the "Dresden Files" series of fantasy detective novels as well as the "Codex Alera" series. The Dresden Files is currently in development as a series for the Sci-Fi Channel. A martial arts enthusiast with fifteen years of experience in various styles, Butcher is also a skilled rider and has worked as a summer camp horse wrangler and has performed in front of large audiences in both drill riding and stunt riding exhibitions. Butcher enjoys fencing, singing, bad science fiction movies and live-action gaming.
Hugo award-winning and Nebula award-nominated author and editor Lawrence Watt-Evans, Special Guest, will be leading FenCon's writers workshop. This intense series of sessions is the perfect way for an aspiring writer to sharpen skills and to polish that unpublished manuscript. Watt-Evans is the author of more than thirty novels, over one hundred short stories, over one hundred and fifty published articles, and a few comic books.
The artwork of Darrell K. Sweet, Artist Guest of Honor, can be found on numerous science fiction and fantasy book covers. Hugo-nominated as Best Professional Artist in 1983, Sweet’s painted covers include books by Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Lawrence Watt-Evans, and perhaps most famously Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series. FenCon III will mark the first Dallas appearance by this legendary artist.
An exciting science fiction convention, FenCon III will offer numerous activities including informative and instructional panels, an art show, filk concerts, a video room, an open gaming area, and a costume contest.
FenCon III also will feature the FenCon Short Story Contest. The first entry is free for members of FenCon III and just $10 for non-members. Final judging will be conducted by top industry professionals and the winner will be published in the FenCon III Program Book. The contest entry deadline is July 15, 2006.
More than 60 guests, including writers such as Jane Archer, Rachel Caine, Carole Nelson Douglas, P. N. Elrod, John Steakley, and Shanna Swendson; filk singers such as Leslie Fish and the Bedlam Bards; and artists such as David Lee Anderson, Brad Foster and Joy Marie Ledet, are scheduled to appear at this three-day event, offering their expertise and experience in several venues for attendees. Filk concerts (folk music with a science fiction twist) will run all day Saturday. The dealers’ room will house more than twenty vendors selling merchandise ranging from books to shirts to jewelry.
This is an incredible opportunity to gain insights and tips from an incredible list of Science Fiction and Fantasy authors and artists and to experience a convention with a major focus on Filk.
