ATTENTION! POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW! READ A YOUR OWN RISK!
Dear God, Marvel's really milking the MARVEL ZOMBIES concept, aren't they?
First issue in the second of Marvel's prequels to the suprise hit, Marvel Zombies shipped this last Wed.
Was it great? No.
Was it better than the God-awful Marvel Zombies/Ash crossover? YES.
Is the book worth the 4 bucks a pop a month? Meh...??
Still, the book offers some crazy moments such as Reed Richards crushing his son to death and infecting his family with the zombie virus. Lots of gory fun in the book.
Jesus' verdict?
+++ out of 5 crosses. Good but I'd rather wait for the TPB.
Let me go on record about the New Avengers. (This counts for the Mighty Avengers)
This book is like a really bad, gory, decapitated nuns in a car wreck.
Good parts:
Leinil Yu draws some real great action scenes! This is Yu at the top of his game. I love every panel this guy has drawn since he was back on Wolverine in the 90's.
Clint Barton is back on the team! YAY! He's an Avenger again! But this oddly leads to the
BAD parts:
So how much more can Brian Bendis screw with Hawkeye? First he kills him in such a non-death sort of way, brings him back to search for Scarlet Witch only to find her and just bang her brains out and leave. So Brian now FINALLY brings him back in the picture by.......making him a ninja?
That's right.
The ninja known as Kronos is Clint Barton.
Seriously.......why? Just..why would he do that? It doesn't make sense. Bendis just writes Hawkeye as "Meh. I don't feel like being Hawkeye. But being a Ninja? HELL YEAH! Screw the bow and arrow! I'm carrying a katana!"
And why does Bendis continue to feel the need to tell every damn story in flashback?
Alright already! It was good in Daredevil (for the first arc) but it's getting tired!
.....
I give up on Bendis. I really do.
Jesus rating of - out of 5 crosses. That's right. A HALF a cross.
Invincible #41 is superheroes at it's best.
What more can be said about this series that hasn't been said already? As the cover says, it's "Probably the best superhero comic book in the universe!"
Ryan Ottley's art seems to get better and better every issue.
But one of the best moments in the book?
Rexplode taking a bullet in the head and STILL saves the day.
Jesus Rating of ++++ out of 5 crosses.
I don't know about you guys but I'm loving Nova's new series.
Issue 1 was good.
Issue 2 was really good.
Everything from Nova's reaction to news on the Civil War to being asked for his registration papers was perfect.
This series again gives us the best panel in comics this week!
In the language of the nerds.
Tony Stark?
You just got pwned.
By NOVA.
Jesus rating of +++++ out of 5 crosses!
BOOK OF THE WEEK
Iron Fist #5
Written by Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction
Art by David Aja, Travel Foreman, and Derek Fridolfs
From the ruins of the dreadful Civil War event, Iron Fist brings a solid superhero book every month.
No monthly guest appearences by Tony Stark.
No Initiative superheroes attempting to take down Iron Fist.
Just Iron Fist doing what he does best month to month.
Kicking ass.
David Aja continues to draw smooth, fluid fight scenes while Travel Foreman (sorely underused at Marvel) offers energetic flashback sequences.
Brubaker and Fraction continue to offer a fun adventure every month and everybody should be following along.
