Demi Moore was looking great during this period, and I always thought Patrick Swayze was good, but the real surprise came from the fact that none other than Jerry Zucker directed this box office hit. The normally comedic auteur (he directed AIRPLANE and TOP SECRET!) showed us his soft and serious side, and helped Whoopi Goldberg win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. But the performance I always remembered was the creepy bad guy, played very effectively by the underrated Tony Goldwyn.
