GHOST TOWN A spirited romantic comedy, Ghost Town is the story of Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais), a cranky Manhattan dentist who develops the unwelcome ability to see dead people. Really annoying dead people. But, when a smooth-talking ghost (Greg Kinnear) traps Bertram into a romantic scheme involving his widow Gwen (Tea Leoni), they are entangled in a hilarious predicament between the now and the hereafter! I really felt like this was one of the better films of the year that no one saw. Ricky Gervais (brilliant on EXTRAS) has an undeniable charm that I felt worked very well, in what is ultimately a rather unique love story. But see that's just it, this love story was cleverly disguised as a comedy. Maybe that's why more people didn't see it. Love stories sell tickets, but comedies need big names to make money. Sadly many Americans still aren't familiar with Gervais, or perhaps they just don't care. I sincerely hope this film sees a second life on DVD and Blu-ray, as it could easily become one of those word of mouth films everyone recommends to all of their friends. If you haven't seen it, give it a shot. Watch it with a loved one or family member. It's actually rather good.
