Well I went to see the Watchmen movie in theater again today.
I was bored and had a couple of bucks to spend but from what I'd heard from the theater manager, Watchmen was going to cease being played at that theater.
And why not? There were literally 2 other people in the theater with me. It's about done. The movie only grossed worldwide about $178,001,119 on a budget of $120 million. Sure it was "profitable" but after all the advertising, legal fees with Fox as well as having to hand over a chunk of the domestic gross, it's more than likely in the negative.
And you know what? I'm happy. I really REALLY am.
Personally I enjoyed this movie. It wasn't bad. It wasn't anywhere close to being as good as the comic but we all knew that going in.
But now that the movie is considered a "failure" we won't be seeing a Minutemen prequel. We won't be seeing Watchmen 2: Watchin' Harder.
We WON'T be getting the Watchmen Babies in V for Vacation.
Now that the movie is out, is there really any wonder that the average moviegoer didn't get into it?
Honestly, the average moviegoer only wants to see big giant robot fights, wise cracking fart movies, and Will Smith shirtless.
Your wife, girlfiend, sister, and mother all want to f**k me.
Maybe the average moviegoer just wasn't ready for such a dense story that bursts all your thoughts on superheroes and how we really shouldn't trust these people with our lives.
They don't want to see a parallel Earth that so closely resembles our own with constant war, nuclear threats, goverment officials that NOBODY trusted.
And I'm pretty sure everybody is still kinda uneasy about seeing New York devasted. Yeah yeah 9-11 was years ago but since then, people just aren't into that kinda spectacle.
Or maybe they weren't ready for Dr. Manhattan's giant blue dong gracing the silver screen.
DONG!
And in his cold, mystical castle in merry old England. Alan Moore laughs.
This is my happy face.
